Celebrate midsummer in Latvian spirit!

Latvia is one of the countries who has the brightest traditions in midsummer day, called the Jānis day celebration.

A great feast, song and dance, the shortest night of the year spent in front of a bonfire, mystical rituals and even a bit of romance – this is what makes the Līgo celebration or Jāņi. Jāņi is celebrated on the summer solstice on 23 and 24 June. This pagan-like holiday is almost more popular in Latvia than New Year's Eve and Christmas.

Do you know the meaning of midsummer in different countries?

Midsummer, also known as St John's Day, or Litha, is the period of time centered upon the summer solstice, and more specifically the Northern European celebrations that accompany the actual solstice or take place on a day between June 21 and June 25 and the preceding evening. The exact dates vary between different cultures. The Christian Church designated June 24 as the feast day of the early Christian martyr St John the Baptist, and the observance of St John's Day begins the evening before, known as St John's Eve.

Buildings, located in unusual places!

It seems that on our planet are left just few „corners” where people hasn`t taken their foot. But seeing these pictures thoughts completely changes. These are 5 buildings in the world which are most difficulty to reach.

1. Lodge in the middle of a river
This lodge is located in Serbia, on a miniature island in the river Drina. It was built in the end of 1960 by initiative of group of young people to have their own summer club.

2.Under the grass roof
Nordic roofs, covered with a layer of soil and grass is not a rarity. If such a roof is designed properly, it protects from large storms and heavy showers. In Faeroe Islands such buildings have survived until the present day - and not a single one!

3.House in a cliff
At the end of the 1960 in Caribbean island, Becky, was built house named “Moon Cave”. Its owners wanted to live in an ecologically clean place in a natural environment. Unfortunately, rock falls very soon made it dangerous to live in the house.

4.Church on a inaccessible cliff
In the west Georgia, on a high, inaccessible cliff called Kachi pillar in Imerety, is a church, where their bravest can climb up by metal stairs. By the way, the entrance is allowed only for men!

5.Mountain house in 4000 meter height
In Switzerland, Matterhorn mountains, in 4000 meter height, on a steep slope edge lies so –called “hata”- mountain house, where those who are on why to the peak can spend the night. Wake up and you are above the clouds!
